I think that would be great, but it is very difficult to change once you have become specialised in a specific area! Basically, I know lots about evolutionary psychology, primates and facial expression, but not much about other areas! A sad fact… 🙂

Actually I kind of did that. I was trained as a chemist in grad school but now I am in school of biology. To me, it is a big shift, chemists and biologists surprisingly have a very different point of view. I did this change because I think it is necessary to be able to combine different disciplines under one concept as a scientist. I think it is important to have a wide spectrum of understanding. Future belongs to ones who can adapt change, that is how evolution works too! 🙂

Oh very much so! When I was in university I studied physics, I would love to work in physics too at some point if I got the chance. I think it is getting more and more difficult to switch fields as everyone is getting much more specialised more quickly, however I am a big believer in the ‘if you try hard enough you can do anything’ philosophy!

Oooh yes! I’d love to work on animal behavioural ecology. That’s really different! I’d also like to go into micropalaeontology where you study incredibly small marine organisms. There are lots of applications for this- you can estimate past climates very accurately by studying the shells of some of these organisms. This is really useful for trying to understand what our climate might do in the future!
