      The cuticle is the bit where the nail grows from, so this is the newest bit of nail.

      Cuticles provide protection at the bases of our growing finger nails. That’s about as much as I know I’m afraid!

      The nail cuticle is a thin piece of epidermis, the outer layer of your skin. It protects the newest parts of your nails as they are growing.
