• Question: why do we have freckles?

      Good question. Our skin has pigmentation and this varies all over our skin. This leaves us with some spots of darker or lighter colouration. Face freckles may have been selected for if they look attractive, or help us identify each other.

      Having freckles is down to our genes: some people have the dominant gene that can lead to freckles. However, exposure to UV light is what causes freckles to become more visible- so it’s a mixture of genes and sun really I guess.
