Because we know we’ve done wrong! Humans are highly social animals and no one likes to be discovered in the act of wrongdoing- socially we have evolved strict codes of behaviour and when we break those codes we know we’re going against the people around us. There is more of an advantage to us if people see us as trustworthy individuals- we will form stronger social bonds and be more likely to find a mate etc. And having a row off someone always makes me nervous because I hate being shouted at!

I guess we are anticipating a conflict with someboady – so our body is getting ready to fight, or run away!
