      Hi Emily,

I wanted to be a scientist because I thought dinosaurs are awesome and it’d be great to spend my life studying them. Sometime at university I realized that there are even more interesting things to study than dinosaurs and that’s how I ended up researching early life on Earth. It really just started out with being curious about things.

Good question. I am a curious person and I like to ‘understand’ things. I figured that science will be a long lasting journey for me, that will always satisfy me because of the fact that there are endless number of unknowns yet to be solved. Contributing to science makes me feel like a superhero!

I think like everyone in this job i am very curious about how the world works. I loved science in school and university, I loved biology, watching David Attenborough.

I think there was another good reason why I wanted to be a scientist. Working in a university allows you to be creative and think. It gives you space to try out new ideas that you would never have in a business or industry job. The freedom of being able to come up with and test your own ideas is an awesome part of being a career scientist.

      Hi Emily,

My honest answer is really geeky. I saw Jurassic Park, marvelled at the T-Rex roaring triumphantly and decided there and then in a rather awe struck voice, “I’m going to be a palaeontologist”

I guess I was just mesmerised by the fact that Earth has been so utterly different throughout its history and being able to study that is just FUN! 🙂

I thought it might be fun…and most of the time it is. 🙂
