CHARLES DARWIN!! He was so insightful and clever and BRAVE to uncover the secrets of how life on Earth evolved. In his day Society was deeply mistrustful of people who went against the teachings of the Church to understand their world. Without Darwin’s sense of wonder at the world and his lifelong quest to understand the very nature of life despite what everyone else in his time believed, we would not have the successful medical treatments we have today, nor would be have the ability to understand the way the planet and it’s biosphere functions! I can’t be passionate enough about this wonderful man!

William Smith- the canal builder who made the first ever geological map of England and Wales (probably the first in the entire world) in 1815, was also incredible and brave and intrepid. I love them both.

Darwin! He worked out evolution…which is one of the most important scientific discoveries ever. 🙂

Darwin and Galileo are my top two favorite scientists. Because they both were passionate enough to support their ‘dangerous’ and revolutionary ideas despite the obstacles in the society. I think it is very brave and takes a lot of belief in-self to do what they do, and I respect them for the same exact reason. I also like Carl Sagan and Richard Feynman, two fine men!, who inspired me and shed a light on my dark days during PhD struggle. I always felt that they are my good friends… 🙂

I think it would have to be Darwin – he did create my discipline. And he also showed us a whole new way to think about the natural world.
