Gunpowder was first invented by the Chinese way back in the 800’s. They mixed something called saltpeter with charcoal and sulphur and probably had a shock when they set fire to it! They started using it to fire rockets and cannons at Mongol invaders. I bet they weren’t expecting it!

gunpowder is the first chemical explosive and it was the easiest thing to do back in the day. remember the saying that goes: if life gives you lemons, make lemonade? now, replace lemons with sulfur, charcoal and nitrate and lemonade with gunpowder. there you go: booom!!
