Well…there are lots of different ways to be a scientist…but if it doesn’t interest you and you don’t feel successful at it then I would probably suggest you do something you like better! Science isn’t everything… 🙂

If you don’t enjoy science then don’t do it for a living. There are plenty of other careers out there! However, if you do enjoy it and find it really interesting but you’re also struggling in class there are a few things you could do- talk to your teachers and ask them to explain things in a different way- I did this during GCSE chemistry- I couldn’t understand the concept of activation energy so my teacher sat down with me one lunch time and I’ve understood it ever since.

Reading popular science books would also be really good because they explain complex concepts in a really easy to understand and interesting way and it may make certain subjects more enjoyable for you.

I was never that confident in science lessons in school either- especially physics! But when I started my geology degree I found I was much better since I was taking a subject I really enjoyed. That’s the secret I think. My self confidence grew then and now I can even tackle physics. Believe in yourself, work hard and ask for a bit of help. Easy peasy 😉

What makes you think that you are not good at science? Is it because your grades are not as high as others in class? If that is the case, I would say don’t give up, that is not a criteria. I never scored a high grade in chemistry or physics in high school, nor college but I think grades, especially in this education system, are not really a measure of anything. What matters is what you really like, your passion, your goal… you can be anything you want to be, if you want it hard enough. If science is not your passion, it is ok too, there are plenty other great occupations out there! Just make sure you have fun 😉

      Hi Jeda,

I was never very good at physics or chemistry but I loved biology (Although my grades weren’t always exemplary to say the least). If you really like something, not necessarily school science it’s easy to be good at it. So if you like one of the sciences a lot – just go for it, read up, ask questions! Being a scientist is different from learning science in school!
