• Question: if the moon ever moves to far away from earth, will we lose the tide and the waves? and do u think it will?

      We would loose our tides and therefore our waves yes! What a frightening thought! I’m not sure what could cause such a catastrophic deviation to the moon’s orbit around Earth that it would move away- it certainly wouldn’t just float away into space because the Earth’s gravity is strong enough to keep the moon in orbit. I suppose an asteroid collision could cause the moon to be smashed off course…………the likelihood of that happening is pretty slim though. However, it was an asteroid smashing into the very early Earth that created our moon! So I suppose anything’s possible!

      If the moon moved away from the earth we would loose the tides yes but not the waves. Tides are caused by the gravitational pull of the moon but waves are caused by the wind blowing over long stretches of water. We could still go surfing but the animals living in rock pools would die 🙁
