Yes, I work with different species of primates (chimpanzees, gorillas, macaques and gibbons at the moment – but I am interested in lots of different primate species). The work I do is mainly observational, so we watch the animals in zoos and in the wild and take measurements about their behaviour. Some of the animals I work with are in cognitive laboratories in the USA, which are a bit like zoos only the animals are not on display for the public. There are still ethical questions about keeping them in laboratories, and so it is always important to keep thinking about this. Feel free to ask more questions!

I use bacteria and yeast only. No cute anything 🙂

I work with animals. I work with budgies and other birds. I think that animal research gets a bit of bad press. I love animals and I care very much about their welfare. I think that most animal researchers are like that. The experiments I do using animals involve nothing more than giving them a task to solve and watching them solve it. The birds enjoy it because they get a treat as a reward when they solve a task.

I think there is a limit to what you can use animals for in a lab, for example I don’t agree with using animals to test cosmetics. But my work is harmless to the animals and they are kept well and happy in the aviary.

Yes I have used animals in the past- sea squirts, jellyfish, molluscs, keel worms, sponges, sea urchins. I’ve looked at their embryos and they’ve all been beautiful. (And the animals were always well looked after!)
