I’m not a particle physicist, so I’m not sure, but I think it goes something like
this: The Big Bang theory explains how our universe formed, and explains why the various particles that we know about – protons, neutrons and electrons – exist. But it also predicts the existence of other particles, like the Higgs Boson, which have never been found yet. One of the aims of the CERN Hadron Collider is to look for this particle – if we find it then it will help confirm the Big Bang theory. I’m not sure if we could ever re-create the Big Bang, that would mean creating a whole new universe inside our own – my mind starts to bend when I start to think about things like that!
