YES! In fact every time a group of zoologists ventures into a rain forest somewhere they generally discover new species: Insects like beetles, arachnids and even mammals, birds- you name it! In the abyssal plains (the deepest stretches of the sea floor) there are new organisms being discovered quite frequently living under huge pressures with no light. Micro-organisms like protists or bacteria are continuously being discovered……In fact if you can think of a group of organisms, chances are there are undiscovered species in those groups living in some of the unlikeliest places. life finds a way to be everywhere on this planet! If you want to keep up try googling ‘new species’ every once in a while and see what comes up!
Most certainly! The chances of us discovering large land mammals is less likely, but there must be lots of insects, spiders and other invertebrates that we haven’t seen yet. In the oceans there may be huge numbers of species that we have never come across. That is one of the most troubling things about global waming and habitat destruction – we may never know that these animals even existex before they go extinct!
A lot of them I’m sure. We continue to discover new species all the time. Mostly insect species but in the last decade people have also discovered new monkey species and a new bovine (cow-like) animal in Asia! So as you see there’s plenty out there we don’t know about.
