AIDS can develop from HIV infection, which is transmitted through sex or blood transfer. HIV does not always turn into AIDS, and modern treatments can be very helpful in preventing it. But for many people (particularly those in poorer countries), this does happen and it can be fatal.

The HIV virus can be transmitted through bodily fluids like semen, vaginal fluid, blood and breast milk and via the placenta in mothers. So you can become infected by having sex, sharing hypodermic needles and developing babies can contract the virus from their mothers. However, HIV is not passed through saliva, sweat or nasal mucus so you will NOT contract HIV through normal or casual bodily contact including kissing. Hope that helps.
