      Humans and apes shared the SAME COMMON ANCESTOR. That’s the key to understanding human evolution and our relationships to other primates. We’re primates too! We didn’t morph into human beings from the apes we see around us today.

      Hi everyone! Yes and no. About 25 million years ago we would have been a bit like monkeys. Not monkeys as they look now, but instead a sort of early monkey thing, that was also a bit like us. We (well, our ancestors) split from this group and spent 25 million years evolving into humans. We eventually became Homo sapiens only about half a million years ago… Many other species also budded off from this line (chimpanzees, gorillas, neanderthals etc.). The other early monkey things also carried on evolving, and turned into the many, many species of monkey we see today. And also many species that have gone extinct!       No. We did not evolve from monkeys, in fact we evolved from a ‘common ancestor’. Meaning we all shared the same root back in the day (millions of years ago). I hope this short and quick answer helps you. Ask me more if you have any!
